Joe Nuxhall (RIP)

Joe (July 30, 1928- Nov 15, 2007) began his soiree in baseball with the Reds, when, in 1944, he pitched for Cincinnati at the age of 15. He still stands as the youngest player in Major League Baseball during the modern era.

He went on to hit the booth, becoming a color commentator for the Reds. He held that position until he semi-retired in 2004. He still announced a handfull of games from 2005 until his death after the 2007 season.

His signature call was his sign off, when he would proclaim, "This is the Old Lefthander, rounding third and heading for home."

It was true that he sometimes fell asleep in the booth, but the Lefthander was one hell of an amazing old dude.

At least, the Red Reporter thinks so.

We at Red Reporter will sincerely miss Joe. He was one of the best people in the game. Thank you for everything and may you rest in peace Joe. Summers won't quite be the same without your gentle voice.
